F.R.I.E.N.D.S- Why So Addicting? January 27, 2008

Where else can you find a group of middle-aged men & women whose careers and relationships are as eccentric as their personalities…only in the borough of Manhattan, New York City!

So what’s with FRIENDS that is so addicting? It’s the characters! They’re funny and hilarious. Their acting suits the character they portray. Although Matthew Perry is sometimes over doing it with his silly antics and annoying facial expressions. The creators made a good choice in doing most of the scenes…either in the famous Coffee house “Central Perk” or in Monica’s apartment. Not much movements and dynamics are needed. Dialogue- is what makes each episode worth watching!

How can you just simply ignore those lines from Rachel Green (snobish and bratty), Monica Geller (high pitched “I know!”), Chandler Bing (sarcastic and exagerrated – “Could this be any more…?”), Ross Geller (boring and out of bent tone), Phoebe Buffay (stupid, silly “smelly cat”) and Joey Tribianni’s (ignoramous questions and pause-for-a-moment-take-your-time after thought). Their lines and dialogues are the elements that makes this tv series reach until the 10th season. So natural!!!!

I know there were a lot of mistakes when they taped each episode. Like that of with the boom mic, it keeps popping on and off the screen. Their mistakes are fine… it’s not what you’re after anyway!

Here are some of my favorite lines:

Joey: I thought it’d be great, you know? have some time alone with my thoughts… turns out, I don’t have as many thoughts as you’d think.”

Phoebe : [Right after playing a song in the coffee shop ] If you want to receive e-mails about my upcoming shows, then please give me money so I can buy a computer.”

Chandler: I’m not so good with the advice… Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?”

[Ross coming back from bathroom, getting ready to play poker with Rachel]
Ross: Your money is mine, Green.
Rachel: Your fly is open, Geller.”

Monica: You can’t fire me. I make your decisions and I say, “I’m not fired.” Ha.”

Monica: There’s nothing to tell! It’s just some guy I work with.
Joey: Come on! You’re going out with the guy. There’s gotta be something wrong with him.

Ross: Do you guys know who “Carl” is?
Chandler: Uh, let’s see — Alvin… Simon… Theodore… no.

Joey: If the Homo sapiens were, in fact, homo sapiens, is that why they’re extinct?
Ross: Joey, Homo sapiens are people.
Joey: Hey hey, I’m not judging!

Joey:Hey Pheobe, do you wanna come over and help us put Ross’ furniture together?
Phoebe: I wish I could but I don’t want to.

[After giving away her bank largesse, Phoebe finds something unpleasant in her can of soda.]
Ross: A thumb?!
Joey: Ewwww!
Phoebe: I know. I know. I opened it up, and there it was, just floating in there, like this tiny little hitch-hiker.
Chandler: Maybe it’s a contest, you know, like, “collect all five”.

Confronting her father at Central Perk, Phoebe breaks some bad news about his ex-wife.]
Phoebe: Lily’s dead!
Frank Buffay, Sr.: She— what?
Phoebe: She’s dead.
Frank Buffay, Sr.: Are you sure?
Phoebe: Well, if she isn’t, creamating her was a big mistake.

Monica: Joey, did you even interview this woman before you asked her to move in?
Joey: Of course I did.
Monica: What exactly did you ask her?
Joey: “When can you move in?”

On My Way Up January 27, 2008

Looking back at how my career was 4 years ago, was a disaster! I almost got fired for making up lame & silly excuses from either being late or most of the time absent. And when I’m at work, I spent my time on the phone, not because I work in a call center as a QAR, but to chit-chat using my cellphone. Oh! And one more thing. There were days when I am always seen in the sleeping quarters…dozing off for almost half of my entire shift. And my quality of work…sucks!

Let me paint you a picture of how I usually spend my time at work (whenever I’m at work).

Shift: 9:00PM-5:30AM

9:00-9:45 (still on my way to work) LATE
10:00-12:30 (scan 5-7 calls)
12:30-2:30 (talk to friends- cellphone)
2:00-3:00 (lunch)
3:00-5:30 (scan calls until I reach my quota- 20 scans)

So how did this lousy employee become a Training & Quality Supervisor? Could it be out of sheer luck? Kissing my-boss-ass? Miracle? I guess these are questions your asking yourself now. But I’ll tell you this, it’s what I would call reality check! Because when I did… it bit me so hard that I pulled myself together, brushed the dust off.. then tried again.

Whoever said I could never make it? Well, they’re wrong. I found out who I really was… it’s never to late to change. And look what I’ve become… I now have people who depends on me and believes in me… my Team!

So don’t be surprised if one day you’ll see me representing a company as VP! Who knows? Nobody ever thought that I’d be s supervisor back then.

Now that I am here, I will never go back to that pit hole.. it’s dirty…it stinks…and there’s not much money (if you know what I mean). And there’s no other way, than to go up!

Plan-A-Wedding 101 January 27, 2008

Here’s one question most single women have been waiting to hear… “Will you marry me?” Being engaged is one of the most unforgettable moment of your life. Finally, you’ve met the ONE! And so it’s time to plan for The Day… your wedding day!

Planning your wedding is really exciting and tiring. There are days when you feel like saying “Let’s just get married tomorrow… to get this done and over with!” If you’re that type of soon-to-be bride who wants everything worked up by somebody else, you should get a wedding coordinator! They offer different packages that suits your budget, schedule and taste. If you think that planning your own wedding may eat up most of your time and energy, get the full coordination package. In this way, your coordinator will work all the planning details for you from day 1. But if you really want to be involved and you want to experience how it feels to plan your own wedding (since it’s juts a once in a life time moment), you can get the On-The-Day Coordination. The coordinator will just help  you prepare  at least two weeks before the wedding and on the day itself.

First thing to consider is THE Date. This is when the fun begins! Draw up a time table based on the chosen date to determine what should be done first. Discuss this with your fiancée. Both of you should determine a priority list. The list should include: mailing invitations, picking up the rings, booking the church and reception site etc.

Budget. Again, talk to your fiancée. He should know how much you intend to spend on the wedding. And mind you, this is one of the most difficult to do. If you’re a big F.R.E.I.N.D.S fan, you will remember what happened when Monica told Chandler she wants a big wedding and that Chandler does not want to spend his entire savings on that day. Communication- that’s the key! If You don’t have enough savings yet and you plan to splurge on your wedding and you only have a year before THE Day… better start saving! It’s nice when your family, friends or your Ninongs/Ninangs would say “Sagot ko na yung…” If they offer to sponsor your wedding rings, flowers, or photo/videos etc.. Don’t refuse. It only means that they’re also excited about your wedding. Oh! and don’t deny it. It sure is a big relief! Whew!

The quest. Now it’s time to look for the perfect place. I always believe that if it’s the right place, you would again hear those wedding bells and you’ll have flashbacks of how you & your fiancée started dating. Don’t just pick the church or the reception site because you know it would look nice and elegant in the pictures, or because that’s where one of the famous movie stars had their wedding or because it’s recommended by one of your friends. These are just some of the things to consider. But what’s important is you should have that feeling! The hard-to-explain feeling. You also want to consider the distance. Usually, it’s ideal that the church and reception site are close to each other. You don’t want your guests complain how far the reception site is from the church. Would you?

When it’s over, what will be left behind aside from the memories??? Pictures and Videos! So make sure not to be stingy in picking the right photographer/videographer. You don’t want to end up knowing that the photographer took pictures with the lens close. Total disaster! Get a photographer that’s accredited. Ask for sample pictures/video. Believe me, it’s worth it.

Attend wedding exhibits and Bridal fairs/Expos. This is where you can get discounts if you’ll get on-the-spot bookings. And usually the big names in the wedding events industry are there.

Surf..surf..surf… technology has it’s way of meeting your demands. Use your internet! You’ll find great ideas and suggestions.
